At Ash Green, it is our aim to provide a high-quality computing education which will allow our pupils to become Masters of Technology through computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Technology plays a significant role in society today and we aim for our pupils to be equipped with the skills to become autonomous users, gaining confidence and enjoyment whilst being responsible digital citizens. Our knowledge-rich and skills-based computing curriculum is in line with the Purple Mash Scheme and National Curriculum, set within a context that reflects the needs of our school community. There is a clear, sequential and structured programme of learning, which has been carefully and coherently planned so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before and towards clearly defined, agreed end points in order to meet the needs of all pupils. It has been designed to ensure coverage and progression from when our Just Three pupils join us to when our Year Six pupils leave us. Specific skills and content are taught through discrete units of work which are outlined in whole-school progression grids. These Knowledge Organisers identify key knowledge, skills and vocabulary for each discrete Computing unit and are shared with all stakeholders, including links to the school website on ‘Class Dojo’ for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and ‘Evidence Me’ for Early Years in order to maximise home-school learning opportunities, and encourage parents and carers to take an active role in their child’s learning. As Ash Green serves a community where there is a high proportion of disadvantaged pupils, we endeavour to provide activities and resources that pupils may not be otherwise experience. This involves formal learning opportunities, memorable experiences, visits and visitors and enrichment activities, both inside and outside the classroom through tangible and virtual means. At Ash Green, pupils are exposed to a wide range of technology including laptops, computers, iPads and interactive whiteboards to support their digital literacy. Therefore, our computing curriculum is designed to raise ambitions, dreams, engender a sense of personal and collective pride in achievement whilst providing a purpose and relevance for learning.

Computing has deep links with Mathematics, Science and Design and Technology providing insights into both natural and artificial systems. We encourage our staff to embed computing across the entire curriculum to ensure learning is made accessible and creative. Consequently, our pupils will develop their creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Lessons also include regular teaching of esafety to ensure that children feel confident when using computers and the Internet and know what to do if they come across something either inappropriate or uncomfortable. Intent 2 | P a g e When pupils leave Ash Green, they will have gained key knowledge and skills in the three main areas of computing: Computer Science (programming and understanding how digital systems work), Information Technology (using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information) and Digital Literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully). The objectives within each strand support the development of learning across the key stages, ensuring a solid grounding for future learning and beyond. Implementation: Please refer to the Computing Policy and Scheme of Work for a comprehensive break down of how the Computing Curriculum is implemented at Ash Green.

Impact: Leaders in school, including the Computing Manager regularly measure the impact of our Computing curriculum through Deep Dives and the monitoring of teaching and learning, assessment and on-going self-review. We survey staff, pupils and parents, undertake learning walks, carry out both formal and informal monitoring in order to sample typicality, and also scrutinise samples of work produced by pupils both in school, as well as remotely. We have an established system of Governor review with a Standards and Effectiveness Committee who oversee our curriculum. Governors on this committee receive regular reports, and discussions are held at this committee meeting on successes and upcoming priorities. Based on monitoring and Deep Dives, clear next step priorities for Computing are agreed as part of a Computing action plan. The impact will be that our pupils will be academically prepared for the next phase of their education, are motivated to succeed and achieve, and are equipped with all the personal skills to do this. The Computing curriculum will be rooted in excellence and enjoyment which will promote achievement, collaboration, individual and collective pride, confidence and high standards of behaviour for learning.
